About Shanti
I am an accredited Person-Centred counsellor and supervisor, currently working as Lead Counsellor for a local charity, supporting clients with complex needs.  I also supervise counselling volunteers and staff, individually and in groups.

I have been a counsellor in private practice since 2004 and prior to this I was a stress management consultant.  I have also been a Counselling Lecturer and Adult Education Tutor for Counselling Courses.  I have worked as a counsellor in the NHS, Higher Education and in a hospice.

In other roles, I have worked with people with disabilities, older people and those with severe mental health issues.  I thus have an interest and expertise in working with: bereavement, disability, health-related concerns, stress, anxiety, depression and trauma.

My Approach
I work in a Person-Centred way bringing all my skills, knowledge and awareness to the working relationship and offer whatever is useful, in service to your needs.  My experience with mindfulness practices can help you work with the ‘story’ your body tells, for example.  But I am equally open to working creatively with the materials and objects that I make available in the space.  As you are the only expert in your internal world, I trust you to direct the pace and style of the work.  I am in on-going supervision for both my counselling and supervision work and undertake a minimum of 30 hours continuing professional development each year.

Professional Memberships
I am a member of British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) since 2008.  I adhere to the code of ethics of both organisations and they both have formal routes through which complaints can be heard, if they cannot be resolved in the first instance by talking to me - more information is available on their respective websites: www.bacp.co.uk and www.nationalcounsellingsociety.org
