Couples Counselling

I have worked in private practice with couples since 2005.  In addition to my experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I draw upon 12 years experience working for Social Services 'Out of Hours Emergency Duty Service', supporting children and families in need, providing mediation, conflict resolution and communication skills. This often involved working with complex family dynamics.

As a trainer in Nonviolent Communication (NVC), I have a breadth of experience in supporting people to be heard  empathicly.  In my couples work, I endeavour to support each of you to be heard, individually at a level of need.  As part of this process at times, I may seek to translate any judgements I hear to being expressed into needs.  This is all part of the skills training I can offer to you as a couple to support clearer communication, if needed.

I am aware that  choosing couples counselling can feel like a big step - sometimes people choose this to explore difficult dynamics that are showing up in their relationships, others want to decide whether to stay together and some want help in separating cleanly (especially if there are children involved).  Whatever your reasons for choosing couples counselling, I aim to meet you with, sensitivity, respect and compassion.  I hold a safe space that allows each of you to be met equally and to safely explore the issues in your relationship.  I offer empathy for whatever unfolds in this process.
